Roundtable “Should One Look for Blue Oceans in the Peaceful Atom?”

On 10 November 2015, the roundtable “Should One Look for Blue Oceans in the Peaceful Atom?” arranged by the Department of International Economics of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTUU KPI), Ukrainian Nuclear Society and Youth Energy Community was held in the Hall of Administrative Council of NTUU KPI.

Roundtable “Should One Look for Blue Oceans in the Peaceful Atom?”

Representatives of Energoatom, SSTC NRS, Ukrainian Nuclear Society, Ukrainian Nuclear Forum, students, postgraduate students and others participated in the roundtable.

During the meeting, the participants discussed urgent and strategically important nuclear issues, in particular:

  • challenges, current nuclear development trends and comparative analysis with renewable energy sources in Ukraine and worldwide
  • construction of new power units and centralized spent fuel storage facility in Ukraine
  • creation of international scientific and research platform on NPP long-term operation
  • international experience in diversification of nuclear fuel supplies for NPPs.

Each issue was followed by constructive discussion involving experts and active young generation aimed at reaching common understanding of current nuclear processes.

The participants emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in solving current challenges to Ukrainian nuclear safety, stated the need to continue nuclear fuel diversification policy and positively assessed further development of nuclear industry in Ukraine and worldwide.
