Ukraine Summer Internship Argonne National Laboratory Program 2026 Started in Lviv
The sixth Ukraine Summer Internship Argonne National Laboratory Program has started in Ukraine. This training course is made possible, once again, through the financial support of the U.S. Department of Energy and the initiative of Argonne National Laboratory.
The program is traditionally organized by the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) with the support of the Lviv Polytechnic National University.
This year, the program has once again brought together the most talented and highly motivated students selected through a competitive process. Participants represent seven leading Ukrainian universities: Lviv Polytechnic National University, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National University of Water and Environmental Engineering, and Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.
Mykola Lohoida, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Development at the Lviv Polytechnic National University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.
The event was officially opened by Oleksii Dybach, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation at SSTC NRS, who welcomed the students and expressed his appreciation to the partners for their cooperation.
“On behalf of SSTC NRS, I am delighted to welcome you to the now traditional Ukraine Summer Internship, held with the support of Argonne National Laboratory and, this year, in cooperation with Lviv Polytechnic National University,” said Oleksii Dybach. “You have come from different cities, represent different universities, and study various engineering disciplines. What unites you is your interest in nuclear energy, your commitment to professional growth, and your willingness to contribute to the field that is fundamental to our country’s energy security.”
In his address, Oleksii Dybach emphasized that the future development of the sector depends largely on the next generation of engineers and nuclear safety professionals. For this reason, this year’s program places particular emphasis on advanced and emerging nuclear technologies.
The program consists of four training modules and combines lectures delivered by Ukrainian experts, experts from the Argonne National Laboratory, the founder of Litera Japan consulting company that worked in the Fukushima Daiichi region following the nuclear accident, and Nikolai Steinberg, Chief Engineer of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, with practical workshops, interactive discussions, teamwork, and a technical visit to the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant.
Throughout the three-week training, the students will work together with their mentors to develop group projects to be presented at the conclusion of the program. These projects will enable the students to apply the knowledge acquired during the course and demonstrate innovative thinking and teamwork skills.
