Workshop in Vienna Brought Together Women Professionals in Nuclear and Radiation Safety to Strengthen International Cooperation
The NucTalks workshop ‘’Regional Perspectives on Non-Proliferation, Radiological and Nuclear Safety’’ was recently held in Vienna (Austria). The event was arranged by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) and the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP). The workshop brought together female professionals from 12 countries, including the United States, France, Canada, and local experts and representatives of national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations. Senior Researcher of the Radiation Safety Department Ielyzaveta Kulich represented the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety.
During the three-day event, participants discussed current safety issues in the nuclear sector, weapon non-proliferation, and gender topics. Ielyzaveta Kulich delivered a presentation “Radiation Sources during Martial Law in Ukraine” prepared in co-authorship with Tetiana Lytvynska, Deputy Head of SSTC NRS Radiation Safety Department. The presentation attracted significant interest from the audience and prompted lively discussion.
“For me personally, the most valuable aspect of such workshops is practical experience feedback. During the discussions, colleagues shared their views on addressing urgent issues, and together we helped identifying priorities and outlining further actions to resolve existing problems. The event also opened new opportunities for international cooperation; we discussed potential topics for future workshops, training events, and publications,” said Ielyzaveta Kulich.
The NucTalks workshop demonstrated the high level of expertise of women professionals in nuclear and radiation safety from the participating countries. The event served as an important platform for strengthening international cooperation, experience feedback and developing joint solutions in the field of non-proliferation and safety. Participation in the workshop will contribute to the further development of Ukraine’s expert potential and strengthen its role in the global security dialogue.
