From 13 to 16 October 2025, a meeting of the Information-Sharing Group on Technical Assistance to Ukraine in the Field of Radiation and Nuclear Physical Security (the Information-Sharing Initiative) was held in Kraków, Republic of Poland. The Initiative operates within the framework of the G7 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction.
The event was arranged to bring together international donors and to strengthen focus and coordination of efforts in implementing projects in Ukraine. The meeting consisted of sessions dedicated to nuclear and radiation safety, as well as chemical and biological security.
The field of nuclear and radiation safety was represented by nine sessions focused on ensuring and strengthening nuclear and radiation safety and threat reduction, enhancing physical protection, and managing radioactive waste and radiation sources.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Sweden, the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Finland, the United States, Poland, Italy, France, as well as international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Commission (EC), the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Ukraine was represented by more than 30 organizations from the radiological, chemical, biological and nuclear (CBRN) field, which briefed international partners on ongoing CBRN-related projects, the progress of their implementation, current challenges and priority needs.
The Public and Press Relations Specialist at the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) and Uatom.org editor Alona Yarushevska also took part in the meeting. She presented information on the project and the role of the website as an important tool for informing the public and disseminating information on nuclear and radiation safety, as well as the future design of the newly developed platform.
Participants of the meeting noted that this meeting was not only about information exchange, but also about building stronger partnerships, aligning our actions, and demonstrating unwavering commitment to Ukraine. During the meeting, it was emphasized that nuclear and radiation safety has become critically important not only for Ukraine but for the entire international community, particularly in light of the increasing risks of radioactive materials being diverted into illicit trafficking.
