U.S. Department of Energy Releases Fusion Science and Technology Roadmap
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has published the Fusion Science and Technology (FS&T) Roadmap aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of fusion energy.
The Roadmap defines ten key actions through which DOE will implement its “Build – Innovate – Grow” strategy to advance the competitiveness of the fusion sector. These include establishing scientific and technical infrastructure, developing the AI-Fusion platform, conducting innovative research, expanding public-private partnerships, building supply chains, training personnel, and supporting the pathway to commercialization.
These actions will be carried out in three stages (short-, medium-, and long-term) and are focused on overcoming key science and technology barriers on the path to industrial fusion energy across six main areas: structural materials, plasma-facing components, plasma confinement methods, fuel cycles, heat-exchange systems, and plant engineering and integration.
