No Radiation Hazard for Ukraine Resulting From Attacks on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
On the night of 13 June, the Israel Defense Forces launched an air operation against Iran’s Nuclear Program. The Israeli Air Force struck a number of facilities in Iran, including facilities related to uranium enrichment, and other military targets.
According to information provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency, as of 9:30 a.m. Kyiv time, no increase in radiation levels had been recorded beyond the industrial site of the NATANZ nuclear facilities, which were attacked and are under the Agency’s control.
The Emergency Preparedness and Radiation Monitoring Department at the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety conducted a predictive assessment of the spread of potentially contaminated air masses.
According to SSTC NRS assessments, meteorological conditions are unstable today. Forecasts for the movement of air masses leaving the NATANZ site demonstrate a shift mainly to the south and southwest in the direction of Saudi Arabia.
The Figure below shows the forecast trajectories of air masses leaving the NATANZ nuclear facility site every hour during the attack period (00UTC – 06UTC), as well as precipitation intensity along the trajectories. The calculations were performed using the HYSPLIT model based on NOAA GFS meteorological data with a spatial resolution of 0.25°. The length of each trajectory is 72 hours. The effective exit height of the trajectory is assumed to be 100 m above ground level.

Significant changes in the meteorological situation over the countries of the Middle East region are possible in the coming hours. The SSTC NRS continues to monitor the situation.
No impact on the territory of Ukraine is currently expected.
Ukrainian citizens who are in areas of increased military risk in the State of Israel are advised to remain calm, closely follow official announcements from the authorized authorities, and strictly adhere to their instructions.
In the absence of urgent necessity, we recommend refraining from travel or postponing planned visits to the countries where hostilities are ongoing.
The situation is being continuously monitored by the competent authorities. In case of any changes, additional information will be provided through official channels.
