Suspicious Object with Increased Gamma Radiation Levels Detected in Chortkiv
On 2 September 2024, a suspicious object was discovered within the territory of the Chortkiv municipal community. The object bore official radioactive material markings, and a gamma dose rate of 15 μSv/h was recorded on its surface.
The object was removed from the site and placed under the custody of the Chortkiv District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Ternopil Region.
Chortkiv community officials are currently addressing the issue of financing the transfer of the radioactive material detected in illicit trafficking to the Lviv Affiliate of the Radon Association.
Information on the detection of radioactive material in illicit trafficking will be added to the IAEA Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB).
