Massive Nuclear Exercise Held in New York
On 26 – 31 January 2025, massive interdepartmental nuclear incident training exercise was held around Schenectady (New York), Albany and Saratoga.
Exercise was arranged by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security and other local and federal partners within a series of regularly scheduled biannual exercises held by the U.S. government.
The general areas in which the training exercise took place include areas around Albany Airport to Stratton Air National Guard Base to northern Saratoga County.
Several local and state law enforcement, fire, emergency management and public health agencies participated in the training, including the New York State Police, Albany, Saratoga and Schenectady County Sheriff’s Offices and the Albany Police Department.
Exercise participants will conduct operations in personal protective equipment to simulate realistic conditions. It will also include aircraft from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
The exercise is an opportunity for participating entities to practice and enhance operational readiness to respond in the event of a nuclear incident in the United States or overseas.
The exercise do not pose any risk to the citizens of the region; the public should not be disturbed by the activities related to the training, including the presence of military personnel and aircraft, as well as people in protective equipment.
