Lviv Polytechnic National University to Equip a New Laboratory for Reactor Simulation
Lviv Polytechnic National University has received equipment to create a laboratory for simulating the nuclear reactor operation. The equipment was provided by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory for the Thermal Power Engineering Department, Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants.
The new laboratory is designed for 15 students and will provide the ability to computer simulate processes in a nuclear reactor. The Rivne NPP Unit 3 will be used as the basis for the calculations. Each reactor is unique because they are manufactured individually and in limited quantities, and the technology is improved every year.
With the new equipment, students will be able to change the parameters in the program and receive calculated reactor performance indicators, which will help prepare students for better NPP control.
It is worth noting that Lviv Polytechnic will become the third university in Ukraine to receive equipment from the United States, along with Odesa Polytechnic and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
