Radioactive Item Detected in Zaporizhzhia Industrial Zone
In Zaporizhzhia, an oval item measuring 20 by 30 cm with the inscription “Radiation” was detected on the industrial zone territory at Dokivska Street.
Experts from the chemical laboratory of the Special Purpose Emergency and Rescue Unit of Zaporizhzhia city were assigned to inspect the area.
During the survey, a 3.8-fold increase in the radiation background was recorded in the radiation source area, at 1.15 μSv/h, while the standard is 0.3 μSv/h. The radiation background at a distance of 0.3 m was 0.15 μSv/h, and at a distance of 0.1 m – 0.21 μSv/h.
No increase in radiation background was observed in Zaporizhzhia city. The area next to the detected radiation source was fenced off and is under law enforcement authorities’ custody.
The issue of further transfer of the detected item to the Radon Association is currently being addressed.
