14 Radiation Sources Detected at the Almaz Roadside Stop in Kyiv
On 29 February 2024, suspicious items with increased ionizing radiation levels were detected at the Kyiv railway station of the Almaz Southwestern Railway, 7 Pshenychna Street, Kyiv.
During the radiation survey, 14 items similar to radioisotope devices with increased gamma radiation levels on the surface ranging from 0.34 to 1.12 μSv/h were detected.
The radiation survey was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Cabinet Resolution No. 813 of 2 June 2003 “On Approval of the Procedure for Interaction between Executive Authorities and Legal Entities Operating in the Field of Nuclear Energy Use in Case of Detection of Radioactive Materials in Illicit Trafficking”.
The radioactive materials were removed from the detection site and transported to the temporary storage facility of the RADON Association in the framework of the pre-trial investigation.
Information on the detection of illicit trafficking of radioactive materials will be added to the IAEA Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB).
