Lviv Hospital Reports a Radiation Incident
In May 2023, the Lviv Railway Hospital of the Health Care Center branch of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC received a notification of an industrial radiation accident related to radioactive contamination of the radon laboratory and the detection of unaccounted radioactive materials.
The hospital Head approved an Action Plan to eliminate the radiation accident associated with radioactive contamination of the radiation laboratory. The access of personnel and unauthorized persons to the radiation laboratory premises was immediately prohibited; medical examination of two persons who had access to the radiation laboratory and could have been exposed was conducted.
As of 1 January 2024, radioactive materials and radioactively contaminated items were prepared (approved) for transfer for long-term storage to a specialized enterprise, but the radiation accident remediation was not completed.
