Radiation Source Detected in Kharkiv Region
On 9 October 2023, an object marked with radiation precaution sing was detected in Pokotylivka Village, Kharkiv Region.
During radiation survey it was detected that the radioactive material was contained in RID-1 1979 fire detector (with probable content of Pu239 radionuclide), gamma radiation level on the fire detector surface made 1.5 μSv/h.
The radioactive material was retrieved from the place of its detection and transferred to Kharkiv radioactive waste interim confinement site of the State Specialized Enterprise “Radon Association”.
Information on detection of illicit trafficking of radioactive materials will be recorded in the IAEA Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB).
