Swedish SMR Designer Leadcold Signed Declaration of Intention with Ukrainian Energy Group
The Swedish company Leadcold, which designs small modular reactors (SMRs), has announced the signing of the Declaration of Intention with the Naftohazbudizoliatsiya (NGSI) Ukrainian Energy Group to study the terms of delivery of small modular reactors to Ukraine after the end of the war. The NGSI Group is represented in the Agreement through its ITESU subsidiary (LLC “Institute of Transport and Energy Systems of Ukraine”).
After the war, Ukraine is expected to provide a large amount of environmentally safe, cheap and reliable electricity, and the parties want to explore the possibility in achieving this through cooperation. The Declaration of Intention aims to establish a strategic and operational partnership starting with a study of the conditions for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
Leadcold Company is known for developing the Sealer-55 compact lead-cooled reactor, which the company says has a high level of passive safety. Each reactor will have an electrical output of 55 MW that can be increased by installing several units in one place.
