Nuclear and Radiation Hazard: Participation of Ukrainian Delegation in the Information Exchange Initiative Meeting
In April 2023, the Information Exchange Initiative meeting on provision of technical assistance to Ukraine in the field of radiation safety and nuclear security was held in Oslo, Kingdom of Norway, in the framework of the Group of Seven Global Partnership against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Norway, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, France, Denmark, Japan and Ukraine, as well as colleagues from the international organizations such as IAEA, EBRD, EU, UN and others.
The Ukrainian delegation consisted of the representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspection of Ukraine, the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Energoatom, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the State Specialized Enterprise “Central Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management”, the State Specialized Enterprise “Association Radon”, SE “Barrier”, the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology”.
During the Information Exchange Initiative meeting, the Ukrainian delegation reported on the nuclear crimes committed by russia for the period of full-scale invasion of russian federation to Ukraine, informed on existing nuclear risks and threats, presented the results of on-going projects and proposals for new cooperation. International partners continue to condemn russia’s actions that threaten the safety and security of nuclear facilities, and demonstrate their readiness to continue to support Ukraine in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, as well as physical protection.
The Uatom.org website editors also took part in the Information Exchange Initiative meeting and presented the results of the outreach and awareness-raising activities carried out during the war by means of familiarization with current nuclear and radiation safety content and sharing the plans on future development of the project.
