Radioactive Clock at Airport: Exposure Dose 100 Times Higher
On 12 January 2022, at the Boryspil airport checkpoint, border guards detected a radioactive clock in a Russian citizen’s luggage on a flight to Istanbul.
During the customs control of luggage, the Yantar stationary complex was activated having established the presence of a radioactive item.
After an additional check of hand luggage, the customs officers found out that the cause of concern was the aviation clock. The radiation dose was 100 times higher than the permissible standard.
The aviation clock was handed over to the competent authorities in accordance with the established procedure.
