Chornobyl Decommissioning Program to Be Amended
Ukraine has started amending the National Program for Decommissioning of Chornobyl NPP and Shelter Transformation into an Environmentally Safe System. In the new revision, financing of operational activities will be defined until 2031.
This was informed by Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Roman Abramovskyi during the online meeting of the Assembly of Donors of the Nuclear Safety Account.
The official promised that the draft Program will be subject to all necessary reviews for compliance with national nuclear safety criteria in accordance with European standards and rules.
In addition, the possibility of establishing a separate International Fund to finance priority activities aimed at developing the infrastructure for radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel was discussed during the meeting.
Negotiations on this issue will continue at the next meeting in September 2020.
