Uranium Concentrate Production Increased by 29% in January this Year
In January 2020, the Eastern Mining and Processing Enterprise (Eastern MPE) increased the production of uranium oxide concentrate by 29% — up to 93.6 tons — compared to the same period in 2019.
The cost of concentrate produced in January, according to the Ministryof Energy and Environmental Protection, amounted to UAH 197.9 million. Uranium ore production during the reporting period increased by 7.3% to 48.2 thousand tons.
In 2019, the production of uranium concentrate at the Eastern MPE fell by 32% — to 801 tons compared to 2018. The amount of funds received from the sale of uranium concentrate decreased by 48%: almost UAH 1.9 billion against UAH 3.6 billion in 2018.
Eastern Mining and Processing Enterprise (Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast) is a state-owned enterprise that combines two existing uranium ore mines and one under construction. In addition, the plant includes enterprises of the uranium processing complex. Eastern MPE is the largest uranium mining centre in Europe and the only enterprise of this profile in Ukraine. It is part of the state concern “Nuclear Fuel”.
Uranium oxide concentrate is a product of concentration of natural uranium and raw materials for the production of nuclear fuel.
