With the support of the US Government, the SAUEZM enterprises have received containers for transportation and storage of radioactive waste

At the Kyiv Special Complex they have demonstrated packaging kits for transportation and storage of spent sources of ionizing radiation (SSIR). The project was implemented within the framework of the Agreement between Ukraine and the USA on assistance to Ukraine in the elimination of strategic nuclear weapons, as well as the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Such packaging kits were transferred to 5 special complexes (Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv), as well as to the State Specialized Enterprise «Central Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management».

«Thanks to the financial support of the US Government, our businesses now have equipment that will guarantee the safety of transportation of the SSIR and their safe storage in appropriate repositories. It is in these containers that the spent sources will be accepted to the special complexes, from which, after the formation of a lot, they will be dispatched to a new repository in the Exclusion zone – the Centralized storage of spent sources of ionizing radiation», – said Vitalii Petruk, the Head of SAUEZM.

Within the framework of the project, Ukrainian enterprises received 29 packing kits for transportation and storage of the SSIR, 4 cranes for sources reloading and 5 biological protective screens.
