First Public Hearings on RNPP-3 Long-Term Operation to Be Held in Volodymyrets

Rivne NPP announces the beginning of a public discussion of RNPP-3 long-term operation in order to implement the right of citizens and their associations to participate in the consideration of issues and decision-making process related to nuclear energy use and to obtain complete and reliable information on the activities of the nuclear facility. 

Periodic Safety Review Report that is under development taking into account results of public discussions carried out in the settled areas of NPP observation area shall be the main document, based on which the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine will make decision on the possible long-term operation of RNPP-3 (WWER-1000), whose design life extended in December 2017. Long-term operation of nuclear power plants, provided that the level of their safety is confirmed by the regulatory authority, is a recognized world practice, which allows maintaining the existing level of energy generation in the country.

Public hearings with the participation of RNPP experts will take place during the first half of the year in Rivne oblast: in Voronky and Bilska Volia village councils, Rafalivka and Volodymyrets village councils of Volodymyrets region, Velyke Verbche village councils of Sarny region, Huta village council of Kostopil region, and in Volyn oblast: Krasnovolia village council and Manevychi village council. The public hearings will also be carried out in Varash that is RNPP satellite town.

The first public hearings will be held on 21 February 2018 in the premises of the children’s art school in Volodymyrets at the address 18 Soborna Street. The event will begin at 14:00. Representatives and the public of the Volodymyrets village council, Dovhovolia, Krasnosillia, Kanonychi, Zhovkyni, Antonivka and Berestove village councils are invited to participate in the discussions.
