The new book “Ukrainian Post-Apocalypse” will be presented at KMArtSpace of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” on 1 February at 07:00 PM. The collection includes 17 pieces of flash fiction of modern Ukrainian writers. Each story is a kind of call to humanity to be cautious in using potentially hazardous technologies, including nuclear ones.
The stories describe the world of future, the world of science, the world where people try to find themselves in a new environment, sometimes remaining the same and sometimes changing. This is a warning book. This is a caution for all of us.
The book was written upon initiative of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS). Since late April to early June 2017, the Center announced a contest, in which everyone who had a gift and desire to write could take part. Pieces of different genres were accepted: science fiction, fantasy, stories. The subjects were human-made disasters, Ukraine and the world, and Chornobyl.
In total, 17 pieces were submitted for the contest. A competitive jury of well-known writers decided further on the winner. Artur Zakordonets with his story “Strange Nights Happen Here” won the contest. His story together with other works submitted for the contest was included into the collection “Ukrainian Post-Apocalypse”.
Do not miss the grand presentation of the book! The program includes communication with famous writers, a lecture on combining art and science in the area of environmental safety, and performance of BramaDo folk group and Ukrainian musician Victor Pashnyk.
