IAEA Shares Experience in Training Physical Protection Experts
On 30 January – 3 February, the national workshop “Educational Program on Nuclear Security in Ukraine: IAEA Practices, Recommendations and Experience of Implementation in Some Higher Educational Establishments” was held in the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic University. The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Within the workshop, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine held round table “Training of Experts on Physical Protection, Accounting and Control of Nuclear Material”, where experts from Ukraine, USA, Sweden, Bulgaria and IAEA representatives discussed the most problematic issues in the area.
The greatest concern of experts was caused by the lack of educational institution in Ukraine, where experts on physical protection are trained. From 2014 to 2016, the discussion is underway in order to restore specialization “Physical Protection, Accounting and Control of Nuclear Material” within the degree “Nuclear Power Engineering” at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The Odessa National Polytechnic University and the Lviv Polytechnic National University also expressed their interest in opening of such a specialization.
Within the round table, the participants discussed the formation of the state order for training of experts on physical protection, accounting and control of nuclear material.
