According to SNRIU, on 13 September 2017, a metal cylindrical object with dimensions 1 cm x 0.5 cm was found near the crossing point of the Ukrainian-Moldavian state border ‘Tymkovo’, Kodyma district, Odesa oblast. Based on laboratory analysis, this object was a radionuclide source for metrological purposes and contained Cs-137 radionuclide; equivalent dose rate at a distance of 0.1 m was 172 μSv/h.
In compliance with Cabinet Resolution No. 813 of 2 June 2003 “On Approval of the Procedure for Interaction between Executive Bodies and Legal Entities in Nuclear Energy Use in Case of Illicit Trafficking of Radioactive Materials”, the said object was withdrawn and transferred for temporary storage to the radwaste disposal site of the Odesa State Interregional Specialized Plant, Radon Corporation.
